Arrests made in fatal shooting of off-duty cop in NJ

PATERSON

Newark Mayor Cory Booker spoke with passion, anger, and sadness, over the slaying of Detective Michael Morgan.

He made his speech at a press conference Wednesday to announce the arrest of the suspected gunman, 24-year-old Jerome Wright.

Police say that's him in photos from a surveillance video, first robbing a woman at gunpoint, 25 minutes before cameras catch him, robbing Detective Morgan and a dancer, outside a strip club in Paterson early Monday morning, then shooting detective Morgan.

Wright was arrested with his girlfriend, 19-year-old Nashali Gadson Wednesday morning at a motel outside Philadelphia.

It's all thanks to a tip from someone who recognized him in photos police released.

Police say a camera inside a Newark Footlocker the next day, caught Wright using credit cards stolen during the first armed robbery.

Other cameras caught the crime against the dancer, and the detective, who tried to pull his gun, defending the life of another.
