NYPD to crackdown on gadget thefts on subways

NEW YORK

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Police Department plans to send dozens of additional decoy officers to reverse the trend.

No word exactly how many officers would be added.

Subway riders told Eyewitness News that the idea of decoy officers is intriguing because they don't want to lose their devices with lots of valuable information contained on them.

Earlier this year, surveillance cameras led to an arrest in a string of iPhone thefts in Long Island City.
