Obama signs major disaster declaration for Conn.

HARTFORD, Conn.

The White House announced on Thursday evening that Obama had signed the declaration, ordering federal aid to help with state and local recovery efforts from the storm that hit Oct. 29-30.

The federal funding will be made available to state and local governments and certain nonprofit organizations in Fairfield, Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven, Tolland and Windham counties. The money will help cover the cost of emergency work and the repair and replacement of facilities damaged by the storm.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said additional disaster declarations for Connecticut may be made at a later date.
