Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank

Those who don't know what to give their loved this season can send a tribute gift to Long Island Cares, Inc. Gift recipients will receive a personalized card informing them that a gift has been made in their name to the regional food bank. A gift of $30 will feed a family of four for two days; $105 for one week.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank is Long Island's first. It was founded in 1980 by the late famed singer and activist that bears his name. It is continued today by his wife, Sandy, and a staff working out of a 35,000-square foot venue in Hauppauge and their new storefront in Freeport. The food bank is a member of the Food Bank Assocation of New York State and Feeding America.
