Dozens of drunk driving arrests on Long Island

SUFFOLK COUNTY

The arrests comes as police increase their holiday patrols ahead of Black Friday.

In Nassau, 23 people were arrested between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

In Suffolk, at least 28 people were arrested between 3 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

The increased patrols targeting impaired and aggressive drivers began Wednesday night and will run through New Year's Day.

Authorities said they would also be cracking down on laws pertaining to safety belt use, distracted driving and cell phone usage while driving and officers will exercise zero tolerance for these violations.

High visibility patrols and enforcement will be placed in downtown bar areas and other licensed premises that attract large crowds.
