Procedure to make your knees look younger

NEW YORK

"I exercise like mad and this is one part of my body I have absolutely no control over," Wendy Kay said.

Like millions of other women, Wendy Kay has a hate, hate relationship with her knees.

"The minute I put clothing on, anything a little above the knee I right away see my knees and I hate them," Kay said.

But she's getting ready to do something about it.

Dr. Misbah Khan is carrying out a procedure called knee contouring.

She tells Eyewitness News many women are self conscious of their knees but don't realize they can fix this problem area.

Not a believer?

Before and after pictures show that after the procedure the area is noticeably smoother.

"I always had knobby knees as a child and getting older, your knees change a little bit," said Kathleen Clyne, a patient.

But, Kathleen's results made her a believer in the procedure too.

"The actual shape of my knee is thinner, I don't have any kind of bulges on the sides and it's amazing, so when I wear a skirt, watch out," Clyne said.

The fascinating thing about this procedure is that there's no actual skin removal.

A combination of liposuction, laser work under the skin and resurfacing on top, results in a tighter, younger looking knee.

"When patients leave us they immediately see results but there in some level of skin tightening that continues to happen over the next few weeks or so, and that's what brings a patients a little bit more of confidence, it's improving every day," Dr. Khan said.

The procedure takes about four hours but Dr. Khan says it shouldn't be done on anyone who has osteoarthritis or had knee replacement surgery.
