Exclusive: Stabbing victim tells her story

NEW YORK

She is still in pain, still in shock. She doesn't want to show her injured face on camera, but told Eyewitness News her frightening story.

She was going to throw out garbage in her building's alley Wednesday night when she was confronted by a man with a box cutter, who demanded her money, keys, and cell phone.

The suspect slashed her in the face and pushed her down when she fought back.

The victim describes the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s, short with a thin build, his hair in a long ponytail. As she lay on the ground the man stabbed her in the chest several times.

Detectives were back at the building on west 183rd street as they searched for the suspect.

The victim was treated at St. Luke's - the very hospital where she works as a nurse and where she had just completed a shift.
