Off-duty car crash kills Ulster police officer

A police officer for the town of Ulster has been killed in an off-duty car wreck.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that officer Travis Nissen was fatally injured in a crash in Olive.

The accident happened on Route 28 at around 10:30 p.m.

Nissen served as a resource officer at a middle school in Lake Katrine, near Kingston. He lived in Shokan.

Kingston City Schools Superintendent Gerard Gretzinger said the officer was "very much loved and trusted" by students and staff at the school.
