Deadly Long Island crash

NORTH PATCHOGUE, N.Y.

A 59-year-old Medford woman was in a 2002 Toyota Camry in the parking lot of Gateway Plaza, located at 499 West Sunrise Service Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. when, according to witnesses, the vehicle began speeding across the parking lot and the driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel.

The Camry hit a curb, went airborne and landed on a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was travelling on West Sunrise Service Road at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Matthew Wick, 52, of Brookhaven, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue where he was in serious condition.

The driver of the Camry was also transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
