John Haggerty was sentenced Monday. The veteran Republican consultant was convicted in October of grand larceny and other charges.
Prosecutors say Haggerty got the billionaire mayor to give $1.1 million to the state Independence Party to underwrite an elaborate poll-monitoring effort in 2009. Bloomberg was then seeking re-election.
Prosecutors say Haggerty produced a bare-bones operation and used most of the money to buy a house.
Haggerty's lawyers say the mayor and party got what they paid for. The defense said Bloomberg aides made Haggerty a scapegoat for unsavory campaign practices.
Authorities didn't accuse the mayor or his campaign of any wrongdoing.
