Police arrest suspect accused of shooting at officers

NEW YORK

Officers responded to a van at East 116th Street, between 1st and 2nd avenues, just after 9 a.m. this morning.

They searched the van, which was treated as a suspicious vehicle, but found nothing.

One person was taken into custody, and police believe it is 53-year-old Antonio Olmeda.

Police say Olmeda shot at police officers as he fled from them in Jackson Heights, Queens, on Dec. 2.

He was dressed in a black trench coat and wearing glasses and a fake beard at the time.

Following a previous arrest, in the Bronx, police found an arsenal of weapons in Olmeda's van. So when they responded to his van today, they were taking no chances.
