Suspect in ambassador plot due in NYC court

The Obama administration on Tuesday accused agents of the Iranian government of being involved in a plan to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the thwarted plot would further isolate Tehran. Two people, including a member of Iran's special operations unit known as the Quds Force, were charged in New York federal court. (KIII-TV)

The man charged with plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States will be in federal court in New York City Wednesday.

Prosecutors say the plot was directed by the Iranian government.

It is believed Manssor Arbabsiar traveled to Mexico to hire drug cartel hitmen.

He allegedly wanted them to kill the ambassador by blowing up a restaurant in Washington, D.C.

The hitmen proved to be federal agents.
