A notorious cold case has been solved 17 years later.

The victim, Rene Charles, a father of four from Rockland County was shot and killed in his driveway.

For years police could not find his killer until now and today, the Charles family is getting the answers they have waited years to hear.

Charles had gotten out of his car 17 years ago at his family's Spring Valley home.

Instead of walking in the door, the father of four was shot twice in the back and once in the right side.

The bullet tore through his heart and lungs, shattered a car window and logged into the front door.

"It's bitter sweet, an arrest was made after waiting 17 years," said Dr. Mildred Charles, the victim's daughter.

Police have charged 68-year-old Daniel Jean Baptiste with second-degree murder.

Detectives and family members say the Spring Valley man knew his victim, but they won't what was the motive for murder.
