Cab driver arrested in knifepoint rape in Brooklyn

NEW YORK

"It feels safe now. You really don't want to walk around knowing that someone could get raped and nobody gets caught," she said.

Police arrested cabbie Gurmeet Singh of Queens.

Investigators say the 40-year-old raped a 26-year-old passenger at knifepoint in his cab back on May 6th.

The attack happened in an isolated area near Rodney Street and South First Street right next to the BQE.

"Of course this is very good news, very good news," says Gerardo Santana, a livery cab driver and Williamsburg resident who added the community is very grateful for the police presence and persistence in this case.

Police caught up with Singh after a woman in Harlem told cops a cab driver raped her in late September here on St. Nicholas Avenue.

Detectives got the medallion number from the victim and used it to track down the suspect's cab.

From there say police, a d-n-a match linked Singh to the rape in Brooklyn.

He has not been charged in the Harlem attack.
