NYC makes street closure map available online

NEW YORK

The program is brand new, and city officials are hoping it will give New Yorkers access to more information about what's happening with the streets in their neighborhoods. The thinking is that people should not be surprised by any of these street closures.

So just go to NYC.gov and click on "street closures map." You can plug in an address, a borough, even the date and time, and any project that has received a city permit will be made available.

The map will also tell you how long some of the projects will last, so you can plan around them.

The idea was the idea was first introduced by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in her 2011 state of the city address, and it has been developed over the past year.

"Too many folks are frustrated when they encounter a street fair that they didn't know about or their street being dug up or filming that's happening on a particular day," City Councilman Dan Gardnick said. "We want to make all that information available to them online so that they can find it in advance."

And starting on May 16, the site will add parking regulation information to the site.
