Drivers in New York City could soon get a break from costly parking tickets.

The City Council approved a grace period that gives drivers five minutes to buy a Muni-Meter ticket and show proof to a traffic enforcement agent before they get a fine.

The council also voted to ditch the green stickers the city puts on the windows of cars that are parked illegally during alternate side parking.
