New subway cops making commutes safer

January 24, 2012 5:05:24 AM PST
A new class of subway police officers is already creating a safer ride for commuters.

Each of the 243 new officers assigned to the subways has already made at least one arrest.

The extra officers started about two weeks ago, in response to a spike in theft of electronic devices.

Along with theft arrests, they have also performed first aid and arrested a shooting suspect.
