Man arrested in Long Island deli assault

HEMPSTEAD

According to detectives, the 48-year-old victim was in the bathroom of the Polo Mini Market and Deli at 46 Fulton Avenue in /*Hempstead*/ when 39-year-old Jose Nelson Oliva-Ochoa entered and struck the victim repeatedly about the head with an unknown object.

Oliva-Ochoa reportedly fled the scene. The victim was removed to a local hospital, where he was treated for lacerations and contusions to his head.

An investigation by Hempstead police led to the Oliva-Ochoa's home, where he was taken into custody without incident.

He is charged with second-degree assault and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
