He creates pieces unlike any you've probably ever seen.
He's getting ready for a big show at Rush Arts, Russell Simmons' gallery in Chelsea.
The first thing that strikes as you look at Lerone Wilson's creations is the amount of texture.
Each one is unique and as Lerone explained, made by using an ancient art form, the same technique used by the Egyptians to create hieroglyphics.
This former welder, starts by melting down and mixing together beeswax, resin and powdered pigment.
The three dimensional works can weigh up to 60-pounds, take months to make and in some cases, incorporate more than 30 coats of wax.
These intricate peaks, Lerone says, he's been able to get them to soar 4 1/2 inches off of the wooden base.
He learned how to do this while studying fine art at the University of Illinois at Chicago and has never looked back.
Right now this father of three is busy getting for a show in February at Rush Arts, a gallery in Chelsea owned by Russell Simmons and his brother Danny.
He beat out more than 4,000 other artists and receiving top honors in Miami at Art Basel, a national competition.
His work, a path through the sky, was the highlight.
