Brooklyn Navy Yard retail project cleared

NEW YORK

Sen. Charles Schumer announced Friday that the Army has agreed to transfer the navy yard's six-acre Admirals Row site to New York City.

The project is expected to create 500 permanent jobs and hundreds of construction jobs. The plan includes the rehabilitation of two 19th century buildings.

Admiral's Row once housed the yard's senior officers.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation will be in charge of the redevelopment. It manages the site for the city.
