The Long Island Rail Road is making changes to better communicate with riders.

The first step is better communication within operations.

The railroad is building a new space to combine the public information office and movement bureau.

Managers say this will allow departments to easily share information about delays and service disruptions.

They are also installing more sensors and GPS devices on trains to alert riders when they are behind schedule.
