The 47-year-old man was crossing 6th Avenue at 51st Street at around 6:20 p.m. when he was hit.
The vehicle, described as a Ford or Honda, fled northbound on 6th Avenue.
Witnesses say the driver also struck a vehicle at 48th Street.
The victim is in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Center.
Police found the vehicle that struck the man, but are still searching for the driver.
