Rally held on LI to protest police budget cuts

Some Nassau County residents are fighting to keep their local police precinct fully staffed.

A rally was held outside the Fifth Precinct in Elmont Saturday morning.

The cash-strapped county wants to turn four of its eight precincts into community policing centers, to save $20 million a year.

But civic leaders in Elmont and Valley Stream say their neighborhoods have high crime rates and cutting police positions could risk public safety.
