Multiple burglaries reported near Rutgers campus

NEW BRUNSWICK

Burglars apparently tried to pry open a side door and tried to pull the handle off.

They got through the back door, and made off like bandits.

"Three of us where home and they went upstairs, they took laptops, an Xbox, etc...," said Carter Schwartz.

Carter's next door neighbors had a new front door installed over the weekend, after thieves broke in there.

New Brunswick police say they're investigating four burglaries in the neighborhood, homes rented mostly by Rutgers students. There have been four burglaries in as many weeks.

The first time, one victim says, they stole a 52 inch TV. Police say they don't consider this a spike in burglaries; unfortunately, some students say, it's not.

"It happens all over town, said Chris Rosenberg.

Chris lives near two of the targeted homes. He left in the middle of the interview and went to make sure he locked his door.

Police say part of the problem is students leaving doors and windows unlocked are making it a lot easier for criminals.
