Firefighters injured battling row home fire

Two firefighters are recovering after being injured battling a fire that spread across several row homes in Jersey City.

Flames were first reported around 6:00 Sunday morning on Woodward Avenue.

The fire escalated to three alarms and burned for several hours before bring brought under control.

Three row houses were fully engulfed in flames at one point.

Two of the houses are vacant. Officials believe the fire started in the occupied home and spread.

The person who lived there got out safely.

One firefighter suffered injuries when a ceiling collapsed on him. A fire captain was also hurt when he fell through a floor.

People were evacuated from another building, but firefighters managed to keep the flames away from there.
