The Federal Emergency Management Agency has granted $4.3 million in funds to the city of Paterson.
The Record of Woodland Park reports the money will go toward the purchase of 33 homes in the flood-ravaged north side of the city along the Passaic River.
President Barack Obama visited the city in September, after it was hit by a series of weather events that left residences in water as deep as five feet and prompted emergency evacuations.
A spokesman for Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. says the program is optional for eligible homeowners.
