Three New Jersey state lawmakers are backing legislation that would crack down on the Port Authority.
Among other measures, the legislation would require audits of the agency's finances and impose new financial disclosure rules.
The Democratic lawmakers, citing last year's toll increases, say the public needs to clamp down on the Port Authority's spending.
"All we want if for the Port Authority to practice good, responsible, open government. The toll-paying publice deserves nothing less," said State Senator Bob Gordon (D-NJ).
New York State Senator Andrew Lanza of Staten Island is also pursuing similar legislation.
