Democrats and Republicans on the Transportation panel were split over the proposal, which was passed Wednesday in a 6-4 vote.
Republicans questioned whether the effort was a politically motivated move by committee Chairman John Wisniewski who also serves as state Democratic Committee chairman.
But Democrats rejected the claim, saying that the /*Port Authority*/ has been unresponsive to repeated requests for information on spending and toll increases. Wisniewski said Wednesday that he has four outstanding requests for documents from the agency.
