Crestor may lower pneumonia risk

Researchers say a cholesterol-lowering drug might also reduce the risk of pneumonia.

A study found people who took the statin Crestor were 17% less likely to develop pneumonia and certain other infections over a two-year period.

But, the decrease in risk is considered very small.

Doctors say they wouldn't recommend starting someone on statins just to prevent pneumonia.
