Five people escape burning home in Paterson

PATERSON, New Jersey Paterson Deputy Fire Chief Mike Flemming said that the fire started around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Family members - two men, a woman, and two children - began jumping out the window as firefighters arrived.

One of the children was caught by two of firefighters waiting below.

Flemming says all five were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where one man was listed in serious condition.

Their names were not released.

In all, seven people were displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
