A Long Island is facing gun and traffic charges after police say he was involved in a crash and then tried to hide a weapon in a nearby Target store.

Authorities say 29-year-old George Sterling got in a five-car collision in his girlfriend's car on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Eyewitnesses say he left the scene with a handgun and ran toward the Target.

Police caught him leaving the store and then found a bag with a gun in it on a shelf in the store.

The Target was closed during the police search.
