A new study done by the Mayo Clinic looked at skin cancer rates among people under 40.
It showed that between 1970 and 2009, melanoma rates increased eightfold among women under 40, and increased fourfold for men in the same age range.
There is one bit of good news; while skin cancer rates have gone up, death from melanoma is down by 9%.
The main reason being early diagnosis.
Early-stage cancer diagnoses also rose because of the better awareness going on with skin cancer.
Researchers also feel that the use of tanning beds may be playing a role in the increased instances of melanoma.
