New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is speeding up the replacement of the Kosciuszko Bridge.

The state will spend $460 million, with construction on the new span set to begin early next year.

Traffic would shift onto the new structure before 2017.

The crumbling and slippery Kosciuszko carries traffic between Brooklyn and Queens, crossing the Newtown Creek along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
