Macy's reopens after small fire

NEW YORK

34th Street remained open, but there were traffic delays.

The fire was quickly put out but there was a heavy smoke condition inside the store.

Shoppers lined up on the streets waiting for the store to reopen. It finally did reopen around 5 p.m.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Macy's released a statement saying: "Macy's Herald Square was briefly evacuated at approximately 4pm today due to a minor fire. All customers and store employees were evacuated immediately and safely. FDNY responded immediately and is continuing its investigation. No one was hurt and we received the all clear from the FDNY to re-open the store."
