Suspect wounded in police-involved shooting on Long Island

A police-involved shooting on Long Island left a suspect wounded early Sunday morning.

Police received a 911 call of a man with a gun in front of 498 Nassau Road.

Police say he began to flee the scene, running through rear yards.

Officers noticed he had a handgun, and ordered him to stop and show his hands.

At that point, police say he turned suddenly toward them, and one officer fired, striking him in the right elbow.

The suspect, 26 year old Kelly Baldwin of Freeport, was taken into custody and hospitalized.

Six police officers were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

Baldwin has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.
