The Wall Street Journal reports that Bloomberg will propose a new city ordinance that would require apartment buildings to have a written policy on where smoking is permitted or prohibited.
The proposal calls for a $100 fine if a building doesn't disclose where you can and can't smoke.
"We think that people ought to know whether they might be exposed to second-hand smoke in their apartment before they decide whether to rent or buy," health department Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley told the newspaper.
Officials predict the ordinance would increase the number of smoke-free apartment buildings in New York City.
