New York City is launching a new initiative to promote the benefits of breast feeding.

The health department wants city hospitals to get more mothers in maternity wards to breast feed their babies.

Health officials say that if infants are exclusively breast fed for at least six months, it reduces their risk of childhood obesity by 22 percent.

Hospitals that want to be part of the program can apply for federal funding.
