Atlantic Beach in Amagansett is where Steven Judelson used to come for the surf, but these days he comes for the salt.
Every day, he collects gallons and gallons of water and hauls it off to his salt farm. On 1/3 of an acre, right next to a garlic farm, he has set up an evaporation system that uses the wind and the sun.
Depending on the time of year, it takes just a matter of weeks to turn the sea salt into salt that can be used for seasoning food.
That's what Steve is selling. He and his wife, Natalie, made salt for fun for about 10 years as a hobby.
Now, they operate Amagansett Sea Salt Company. They sell a variety of flavors at farmers markets and to chefs. One ounce of the regular flavor is $9.00.
