699 tickets in New York City for standing water in '11

New York City residents who have have standing water that offers a breeding ground for mosquitoes could get a ticket.

City health inspectors wrote about 700 last year.

They cited New Yorkers for such things as bird baths, puddles and standing water on pool covers.

The fines can run as high as $2,000.

Last year, the city reported 11 cases of West Nile virus, including one death in Queens.
