Mentally-challenged parents found after taking son

STATEN ISLAND

The child's grandmother reportedly has custody of the child, though all four live in the same apartment.

The parents, in their 30s, apparently walked out of the apartment at the Todt Hill Houses on Manor Road before 9 a.m.

The mother, who is also reported to be eight months pregnant, was wearing pajamas and no shoes.

After the parents left with the child, the grandmother called police.

The family was found just before noon. All three were taken out of an apartment in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens.

The apartment is believed to be that of the baby's other grandmother.

The child is said to be in good condition.

When police responded to the Queens house, the occupants refused to open the door. There was a brief standoff before heavily armed officers went in.
