Teens hospitalized after drinking hand sanitizer

CALIFORNIA

Hand sanitizer is 65 percent ethyl alcohol, and several teens in California have been hospitalized with alcohol poisoning.

Some of the teens used salt to separate the alcohol from the sanitizer, making a potent drink similar to a shot of hard liquor.

Distillation instructions can be found on the internet.

Although there's only been a few cases, toxicology expert Cyrus Rangan says it could signal a dangerous trend.

Victims could slip into a coma if they drink too much.

Parents are urged to buy foam sanitizer and check the levels on the bottles.
