Nassau County is now converting some police precincts into community policing centers.

The first of such centers officially opens in Levittown Tuesday in what used to be the county's 8th Precinct.

Last month, county officials approved a plan to cut precincts from eight to four to save money.

They say the same number of patrol cars and more officers will be on the streets.

The conversion will be complete by November.
