Suspect, mom shot by police on Upper East Side

A police involved shooting has left a suspect and his mother wounded on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Police say they responded to the 400 block of East 65th Street on the Upper East Side for a domestic dispute when the shooting broke out.

When police arrived, officers found the 22-year-old man holding his 49-year-old mother in the 6th floor common hallway. After ordering the armed suspect to drop the knife, a uniformed sergeant discharged his Taser at the suspect, to no effect.

The suspect then turned toward police, and two uniformed police officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect three times in the torso. The woman was struck once in the buttocks.

Both individuals were transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

One NYPD officer sustained minor injuries. He was taken to New York Hospital for evaluation. Two other NYPD officer were transported by SWAT cars to a local hospital for evaluations.
