Time cover photo causes controversy

NEW YORK

The cover photo is for a story about /*attachment parenting*/, which promotes bonding with a child in many ways, such as breast feeding, co-sleeping and more positive types of discipline.

/*Time*/ is raising the question, "how much is too much?" Critics of the cover photo say the picture is too much.

On our Facebook page, we received mostly negative reaction.

"I find the cover totally unnecessary and stupid," Robin Rosenberg wrote.

Melinda Dunphy disagreed, writing, "Honestly, with all of the 'parents' who are killing their kids and abusing them, there are so many worse things out there than attachment parenting. Of course there's shock value to the cover, that's what gets people talking about the magazine and the article. But really, if the kids are being raised healthy, none of us knows how they're going to turn out as adults, for better or worse so whatever these parents want to do to best care for their kids is their business."

"I guess I just don't understand it. Are there really significant health benefits to breast feeding a 3-year-old?" Carinne Zappola wrote.

And Kristina Croci Inserillo wrote, "I think it's a bit much. There is a natural bond between mother and child - this is extreme and possibly can be an attachment issue that the mother is suffering from."
