Images released of so-called 'Gentleman Groper'

NEW YORK

After initially arresting the wrong man, police hope the new images lead to the arrest of the so-called /*Gentleman Groper*/, who has attacked four women in Lower Manhattan and on the Upper East Side.

The surveillance photos show the clean-cut man leaving the Chambers Street subway station after a woman was fondled nearby on March 30.

Investigators estimate the man is about 5-foot-11 and weighs about 180 pounds. He is said to be about 30 years old.

In all of the incidents, the man approaches the women from behind. Three of the four incidents took place around lunchtime.

The photos show little resemblance to the bible-study leader who was originally arrested by police. All charges were dropped against /*Karl Vanderoude*/ earlier this week.

"It's affected every part of my life, even from walking to the corner store," he said. "My neighbors recognizing me."

Vanderwoude had evidence that proved he was in other locations at the time of the attacks.

"I'm relieved for myself, obviously, that I can move on with my life," he said. "And now the focus can be put back on the person who has done these, and hopefully they find him quickly."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
