NYPD begins patrol of New York City buses

NEW YORK

Assaults on MTA workers increased from 72 in 2010 to 94 last year.

And in the first four months of this year, there were 36 assaults. That's an 11 percent increase.

The plan is to have police officers jump on buses and ride for several stops to help boost security.

The bus-hopping has already started in the Bronx and on Staten Island.
