Custodian helps stop potential child abduction

NEW YORK

An innocent first grader at P.S. 160 is safe at home, thanks to the man who helps to keep his school clean.

At 7 a.m. Friday, 34-year-old John Vasquez was out sweeping the school sidewalks when he was confronted with a split-second decision.

Vasquez says that every morning, the 6-year-old boy arrives early and waits by himself for an hour for the doors to open for breakfast. Except in this instance, Vasquez told police a hostile man who claimed to be an uncle tried to snatch the little boy.

Police are hoping to find the man before he finds another vulnerable child. Vasquez says the mother thanked him for being her son's guardian angel when he needed it most.
