Guillermo Alvarado-Ajcuc is charged with murdering 29-year-old Mirian Garcia, of Flanders.
Her body was found May 7 near a wooded area at the edge of the Riverhead Shopping Center parking lot on Old Country Road.
They said previously that the victim was last seen patronizing a bar in the shopping center. An employee arriving for work found the body.
Garcia did boat repair work at a local marina and was an avid soccer player. She will be buried at a later date in Guatemala.
