She's Executive Editor of Bicycling Magazine.
And she commutes to work, her round trip commute is 40 miles.
So that means excuse number 1, it's too far away, is not an excuse.
"Some people I know will ride their bike to the train station and then take the train in or take the train to a certain location and then ride your bike the rest of the way in," she said.
Excuse #2: I'll be sweaty when I get to work.
"When you're riding to work it's not a race you don't have to go your fastest pace," adds Flickinger.
She says keep makeup at the office and use a freshening wipe when you get there.
Excuse #3: I have too much stuff to carry. There are many fashionable bags that clip onto your bike.
Excuse #4: There's no place to park my bike
If you lock your bike outside, use a u-lock
And if your employer says you can't bring your bike inside remind them that in NYC we have the bikes in buildings law.
Any commercial building with a freight elevator has to let you bring the bike in or get an exception from the city.
And the last excuse: It's not safe to ride to work.
No one can guarantee complete safety, but to make your ride safer, first puts lights all over your bike.
"Always being visible to drivers that means wearing reflective clothing on your body," said Flickinger.
