Police say a woman, he allegedly planned to knock out and sexually assault, woke up just in time to stop the attack.
Today might have been Neil Parikh's final bit of freedom for quite some time. Today a judge set his bail at $500,000 for what prosecutors say he tried to do to an innocent woman, as she slept.
The victim wept silently in the courtroom as Parikh's indictment was unsealed.
Last month, prosecutors say the 27-year-old Yale graduate, who lives in Nesconset with his parents, let himself into their tenant's downstairs apartment armed with a chemical-soaked rag.
But the victim woke up before he could knock her out. Parikh fled but later left a note for her, allegedly apologizing and calling himself a monster.
But because he didn't actually touch her, he's charged only with one count of burglary. And if that's the case, his lawyer says bail is just too high.
